Empowering Women
OUR STORY & VISION
This Girl Can!
Life doesn’t unravel all at once. More often, it shows up as ongoing pressure, emotional fatigue, and the quiet struggle of trying to be strong while managing everything life demands. Strong Women Advancing Against Turmoil Society (SWAAT) exists for women who recognize that carrying it all alone is no longer sustainable and who are ready to take ownership of their healing. SWAAT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2018 by Shenise Rawlings and built from lived experience. Through personal encounters with depression, trauma, and prolonged emotional exhaustion, Shenise learned firsthand that growth does not happen through avoidance or quick fixes but through intentional support, accountability, and community.
SWAAT was created for women who are ready to engage, reflect, and grow.
We empower women by ensuring they feel seen, supported, and challenged to move forward with purpose. Our approach is not passive. Women who engage with SWAAT are active participants in their own healing journey. We believe support works best when paired with responsibility, consistency, and a willingness to do the internal work. At SWAAT, depression and anxiety are acknowledged honestly but they are not treated as identities. We focus on equipping women with perspective, healthy coping strategies, and community that encourages progress rather than dependency.
Our work produces measurable change.
Women who engage with SWAAT gain:
- Stronger emotional awareness and self‑regulation
- Healthy support systems rooted in accountability and trust
- Practical tools to navigate life’s pressures with clarity
- Increased confidence and self‑worth
- The ability to show up more present and grounded in their families and communities
This level of transformation creates lasting impact. When women take responsibility for their growth, families benefit. When families are strengthened, communities are reshaped. Our work is designed to create forward movement not temporary relief.
SWAAT is not a space for being rescued. It is a space for being supported while doing the work.
Our Vision
We envision a future where women no longer suppress their struggles or rely on survival mode as a way of life. A future where women are emotionally equipped, supported by strong community, and committed to personal growth. A future where healing leads to stability, clarity, and sustained change. SWAAT exists because women who are supported and accountable change outcomes not just for themselves, but for generations.
This Girl Can Inspire, Empower, & Heal!
A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD
At SWAAT Society, we believe no woman should have to go through life alone. We focus on women’s mental health particularly depression and anxiety because when a woman is not mentally or emotionally well, it affects every area of her life. She can’t show up as her best self, and it impacts her children. Those patterns don’t just stop they continue.
That’s why SWAAT exists. We create a real sisterhood where women feel seen, supported, and poured into, so they can heal, grow, and step back into who they are meant to be. Our goal is clear: to build something that impacts at least four generations by strengthening women, families, and communities.
If you’re looking for genuine sisterhood, there is a place for you here. If you’re looking to support or partner, you help us reach more women and families in a meaningful way. Because when you help one woman, you help a family and when families change, communities do too.
