Strong Women Advancing Against Turmoil Society
Empowering Women, Building Sisterhood, and Healing Together
THIS GIRL CAN!
Welcome to Strong Women Advancing Against Turmoil Society (SWAAT)
In a world where life’s hardships can feel overwhelming, SWAAT stands as a beacon of hope and strength for women. Founded by Shenise Rawlings, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting women through genuine sisterhood, compassionate care, and the belief that every woman has the power to heal and thrive.
At SWAAT, we are committed to educating women about the realities of depression and its profound impact. Depression, whether chronic or situational, is more than an emotional state—it can rob women of happiness, energy, and hope. Left untreated, it can escalate to severe outcomes like suicide or early death. The ripple effects are felt by families, especially children, who bear the emotional and mental burden of losing a mother or matriarch.
We believe that through education, awareness, and support, we can change this narrative. SWAAT creates a safe, non-judgmental space where women can share their stories, learn about the complexities of depression, and rediscover their inner strength.
At SWAAT, we firmly believe that your life’s glass is always refillable. No matter how much you’ve been through, there is always hope, always a way forward. We are here to remind you of your worth and to help you reclaim your happiness, energy, and strength.
Our Initiatives:
- Monthly Meet-Ups: A welcoming space for women to connect, share their experiences, and build supportive relationships within a genuine sisterhood.
- Out-of-Country & In-Country Women’s Retreats: Transformative experiences designed to help women release trauma, regain peace, and restore emotional balance.
- Community Outreach: We engage in community service projects that address critical issues like homelessness and food insecurity, providing tangible support to women and families.
- Workshops & Educational Programs: We offer workshops focused on mental health, personal development, and financial literacy. Our educational programs aim to empower women with knowledge about depression and mental health, helping them recognize symptoms and seek support.
SWAAT is more than just a support system—it’s a movement dedicated to creating lasting change in the lives of women and their families. We focus on the education and awareness of depression because we know that understanding this condition is key to healing and prevention. Our holistic approach addresses both the mental health of women and the far-reaching effects that untreated depression can have on families and communities.
Our Vision: At SWAAT, we believe that by educating and supporting women in their battle against depression, we are not only transforming individual lives but also strengthening families and communities. Together, we can build a future where no woman feels alone, and every woman has the opportunity to realize her full potential.

SWAAT BACKGROUND
Founded in 2018 by Shenise Rawlings, the Strong Women Advancing Against Turmoil Society (SWAAT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women who face significant hardships and traumatic situations. SWAAT was built on the philosophy that sisterhood, love, prayer, cultural activities, and joy are essential components of women’s growth and healing. Recognizing that many women struggle with anxiety, depression, and life challenges that create isolation, SWAAT provides a safe and supportive community where women can connect, heal, and regain their strength.
SWAAT offers tools and assistance to help women overcome trauma and rebuild their lives as strong pillars in their families and communities. Through monthly meet-ups, healing retreats, and community outreach, SWAAT fosters a sense of belonging and resilience. With a presence in 13 states, SWAAT has delivered over 2,400 hours of community service annually, provided food to more than 1,800 families, and distributed over 2,000 toys each year to those in need.
With initiatives like the “This Girl Can Impact Project,” financial literacy workshops, and international retreats, SWAAT continues to grow its impact, offering women a supportive network to excel and thrive. Together, this sisterhood empowers women to rise above turmoil, knowing they are not alone.

This Girl Can Impact Project
The This Girl Can Impact Project is designed to bridge the gap for women who face significant hardships but don’t qualify for government assistance. These women often grapple with mood and anxiety disorders, which can lead to chronic depression and, in severe cases, suicide. The impact of losing a mother or matriarch in a family is profound, creating a ripple effect of trauma and instability that affects not only the individual but also her children and loved ones.
Our goal is to provide crucial support services to help these women overcome their struggles, rebuild their lives, and thrive. We focus on addressing the mental health and well-being of women who often fall through the cracks of traditional aid programs.
What This Project Aims to Accomplish:
- Mental Health Counseling: We will offer personalized support to address depression, anxiety, and trauma, helping women gain the emotional strength to rebuild their lives.
- Resources for Families in Need: Providing access to essential resources such as food, clothing, and assistance to help families stabilize during times of crisis.
- Community Support: Facilitating connections and support networks through group activities, workshops, and meet-ups to ensure women feel they are not alone on their journey to healing.
- Empowerment through Education: Financial literacy, resume building, and business planning workshops designed to give women the skills they need to thrive and support their families.
Why Your Support Matters: Your donation to the This Girl Can Impact Project will help us expand our ability to reach more women and children who are in desperate need of support. By contributing to this initiative, you are providing a lifeline to women who have nowhere else to turn and giving them the tools they need to heal, grow, and break the cycle of hardship.
How Your Contribution Will Make a Difference:
Every contribution helps provide critical support to women and children facing significant hardships. Your donation will go directly toward expanding the services and resources needed to empower these women and their families to thrive.
